It’s no secret that the textiles industry is growing at an incredible rate each year. New fashion collections are now being released not just each season, but weekly and monthly too. Yet, with the launch of each exciting collection comes the growing strain on the environment. Issues such as water wastage and the increase in landfill are becoming increasingly hard to control, making the sustainability of the industry a growing concern.
Water Wastage
Did you know that the fashion industry is the 3rd largest user of water in the world? The oil, paper and fashion industry are the top 3 users of water globally!
The use of water is necessary in order for the textiles industry to survive. It’s used to grow and maintain crops such as cotton, which is used in a third of textiles produced across the world. To put it into perspective, it takes 2,700 litres of water to make just one cotton t-shirt! With statistics like this, it’s hard to imagine how the growing rate of the textiles industry can be sustained.
As a business, we’re constantly thinking about what we can do to limit the impacts of our production processes on the environment. We’re taking extra steps to ensure that we’re limiting the amount of water that’s used in our production methods
So What Can We Do?
Supply Organic Clothing
Whilst it’s inevitable that cotton needs water in order to grow, organic cotton allows the water to be used much more efficiently than regular cotton. It’s grown with little impact on the environment as it eliminates the use of pesticides and chemical fertilisers, both of which can cause harm to the environment and the farmers producing the cotton.
We have a fantastic range of organic clothing available on our website which can be personalised with your design. Whether you’re looking for organic t-shirt printing or personalised organic sweatshirts, our organic clothing is super soft and 100% eco-friendly!
Eco Friendly Printing
It’s not just in growing the materials that water is heavily used, it’s also in the dyeing and printing process that water is wasted too. According to Kornit Digital, the amount of water used in conventional dyeing and textile printing could fill the Mediterranean Sea every two years! It’s safe to say that is a lot of water!
In order to eliminate the amount of water wastage, we use water-based inks known as Neo Pigment Pure Ink when printing on our Direct To Garment (DTG) machines. Not only are these inks, toxin-free and vegan and environmentally friendly, they also use 95% less water than traditional inks. This is because of the way our printing machines bond the ink to the fabric, making it the most eco-friendly printing method available.
