We’re proud to be celebrating #LivingWageWeek as an accredited Living Wage Employer!
We believe that everyone needs a wage that meets everyday needs, which is why we pay the real #LivingWage based on the cost of living.
This means that every employee under contract for Clothes2order will earn a real Living Wage.
Issues of the Minimum Wage
A study conducted by the Living Wage Foundation in February of this year found that 44% of the people surveyed said that their level of pay they received for their work negatively affects their overall quality of life. Additionally, the study found that 29% have fallen behind with household bills within the past year.
The highlighted figures and the study as a whole strongly indicate that there is an issue within the UK with level of pay provided by employers, creating in-work poverty. This puts a burden onto employees and we believe that this is unacceptable.
What is the Real Living Wage?
The Living Wage Foundation calculate yearly the real living wage as a part of Living Wage week. The real Living Wage is higher than the government’s minimum, or National Living Wage, and is an independently calculated hourly rate of pay that is based on the actual cost of living. The real living wage is currently £9.50 in the UK, with a higher rate of £10.85 for London, reflecting the higher costs of living in the capital.
There are many benefits to adopting the real Living Wage as a survey from the Living Wage Foundation found the key benefits to be increased company reputation and higher levels of staff motivation.
What This Means for Clothes2Order
We are proud to be one of over 7,000 responsible employers across the UK, who voluntarily commit to go further than the government minimum and make sure all their staff earn enough to live on. This includes household names such as Barclays, IKEA and Nestle. This will see everyone working with us will receive a minimum hourly wage of £9.50 or £10.85 in London. We have made this commitment as we are strongly of the belief that a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay.
Our Managing Director, Sam Jones, recently commented on this significant milestone by stating:
“Over the past several years we have been working towards becoming a Living Wage Employer. We are delighted and proud to announce that Clothes2order is now an accredited Living Wage Employer! This means that every employee under contract for Clothes2order will earn a real Living Wage. This has been a huge milestone for us, and something that resonates with our core company values.”
Becoming a living wage employer emphasises the level of respect, honesty and decency shown to our employees. We are extremely proud to have made this commitment.
